Our words reflect our beliefs just as our behavior does also. What we say comes from the knowledge we have collected over a lifetime of study. Preachers speak multiple times each week and what we say is important because many are listening and need to hear what God says instead of the therapeutic feel-good talks that deceive and destroy.
I would like to share from my heart today a word that has been misunderstood and misrepresented by many and therefore has fallen on hard times, "the gospel." The debate concerning this word has been an ongoing war that Satan has engineered since the church began and the promise was first given in Genesis 3:15.
Truth of the Gospel
Once must know the truth of the gospel in order for that person to be saved. We must know the truth about ourselves: we are sinners by nature and by choice and have offended a holy God by our sin. We are under his condemnation and will spend eternity alienated and separated from God in hell if we do not repent and turn to Jesus as Lord. Secondly we must know the truth about Jesus and His death, burial, and resurrection. The gospel means good news and truly this is the news that all need to hear. Jesus the eternal God became man and lived a perfect life while here on earth and then died in our place on the cross and was raised from the dead to save anyone and everyone who will repent and trust His as Lord.
Terms of the Gospel
The Lord Jesus preached the terms of the Gospel when He served on earth. He called people to repentance and faith. Paul did the same as well as the other preachers in the New Testament. The missing word today in the gospel is "repentance". Easy believeism, just asking Jesus into your heart, and praying a prayer has replace the need for thorough remorse and turning from sin. Repentance is an absolute necessity in the proclamation of the gospel and must be recaptured today. The gift of salvation includes repentance, reliance, dependence, and trust in Christ alone. When a person comes under Holy Spirit conviction and is willing to repent and believe, then God will enable by grace to participate in both.
The Transformation of the Gospel
Those who know and experience the Gospel will give evidence that they have received Jesus as Lord by the truth of becoming a new creation in Christ. The Holy Spirit quenches our dead spirit and makes us alive spiritually. The proof will be an instant and continuos change in the believer. Old things will pass away and all things become new to the true convert. When the Holy Spirit indwells and fills the child of God, they will demonstrate His conduct because they have His Life within and obedience becomes their lifestyle. Alignment with a Bible believing, discipling church is imperative and the growth into godliness and involvement in serving through that church will be seen.
Have you truly heard the gospel and heeded the gospel. Is Jesus real to you, trust Him, He is WORTHY!!
